Birthdays in Dashboard or events in calendar views are displayed wrong in some cases
This is a bug in the current version (v4.5). It will be fixed with the next update. We apologise for this inconvenience.
I get constantly reminders of past birthdays
This is an error in iOS 6 on your device which affects local notifications globally and therefore can also occur for other apps. The miCal reminder shows the correct date at which the reminder should have appeared once. This shows that miCal told the operating system to trigger the reminder at the correct date. The repetition afterwards is clearly a fault of the operating system. We hope Apple will fix this soon.
Please try the following steps, which helped some users but not all:
1. If you use the option "Remind automatically" in the miCal settings, disable this option.
2. Open the birthday list in miCal by tapping on "Birthdays" in the menu on the lower left.
3. Tap on "All" to remove all the clocks on the right of each birthday.
4. Close miCal.
5. Restart your device.
6. Check if you still get alarms.
7. Wait one day and reactivate the birthday reminders in miCal.
Some events are displayed without a location or notes
This only affects events with attendees in v4.5. This will be fixed in our next update.
How can I change the default calender?
You can change the default calender in the iOS options. Just go to "Mail, Contacts, Calendar" and scroll down to "Default Calendar".
How can I change the color of a calendar?
You can change the color when opening the calendar menu of miCal. Tap then on the color button of the desired calendar. The color of all events from this calendar will be changed. If you have assigned a custom color to a specific event, it won´t be changed.
Contacts and Attendees
miCal supports adding contacts to events since version 2.6 (iPad 1.8). This can be used to, e.g., create a telephone call event (phone number and/or email is displayed) and should not be mixed up with attendees. Adding attendees is currently not supported by iOS.
The weather is not displayed, even though an Internet connection is available!
To make the weather forecast work, you have to activate location services. Please check at the iPhone settings, if location services are enabled globally as well as for miCal ("General -> Location Services").
How can I change or delete a birthday?
You can change or delete a birthday by changing or deleting it within the contact App of your iPhone.
How can I set birthdays of friends who I didn't add to my contacts?
Certainly, you can always simply create birthdays as a yearly recurrent event. On the contrary, if you like to use all the birthday features of miCal, you simply have to assign it to a contact - because miCal's birthday calendar is automatically created from the iOS. All the other features of miCal rely afterwards on informations from your phone's contacts. Because contacts are easy to manage in iOS, that should be no big deal. Maybe you like to call or email some of the new contacts anyways one day?
How can I change between the yearly and monthly view or between the weekly and daily view? A simple tap doesn´t work!
A long tap on the month or day switches directly to the monthly or daily view.
How can I copy or displace events?
To do that, go to the detail view (not the edit view) of an event and drag the whole screen slightly downwards. A little menu with 4 functions will appear. The first one displaces, the second one copies the event!
How can I jump quickly to a certain date?
Tap long on the headline of a view (where the year, month, week or day is displayed).
How can I jump qickly to the current date?
Tap shortly on the headline of a view (where the year, month, week or day is displayed).
How can I create a new event quickly?
Tap within the monthly, weekly or daily view twice on a day or time. The screen for creating a new event will open at once.
I sent an event as ICS, but the recipient didn´t get it!
It´s very likely that you have a Google mail account (also, some Exchange server have this restriction). Unfortunately, Google doesn´t send calendar invitations (so-called ICS files) for unknown security reasons. Instead, their mail server "swallows" the emails completely and simulates to the operating system and thereby also to miCal that the email has been sent. Actually, it doesn´t send them and therefore even doesn´t drop them to the "sent" folder. We can´t do nothing throughout the miCal App to fix this. You´d have to write to Google or contact the mail server admin, if any.
You might also try and check this by simply copying the email you send when sending an event in the email App into a new email. The email won´t get there (if the file attachment was copied correctly).
This is really no good, but unfortunately we can´t do nothing about.
I can´t see all-day events!
You have to unhide the all-day events in the landscape week view. You can do this using the little button with the two arrows below the calendar week. Push there and the events will appear.
Since I use miCal, my battery dies more quickly.
We did a lot of tests, and because of our experience and technical restrictions we know for sure that it can´t be miCal which attacks your battery power. The reason is, miCal isn´t licensed by Apple for running in the background (you have to register for this specifically in the iOS). After you´ve closed it, the miCal App definitely can´t be running anymore. We suggest that you have another App running or some system setting which lets your battery die. This could be email calendar accounts which pushes all the time, or calendar subscriptions in the system settings which you don´t update manually. Or you have Apps like Skype or other messengers running in the background. To check this, restart your system and don´t start any App afterwards. If the system still burns your battery, it´s a setting, otherwise it is most likely an App running in the background.
How can I integrate events and contacts from Facebook?
You can find an instruction here:
https://www.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=102366218913
miCal displays different timelines than the iPhone calendar.
Please take a look at the settings of your global time zone. Go to "mail, contacts, calendar"->"time zone support" and check if it matches with your current time zone.
How can I repeat an event every x days/weeks/months/years?
An event can be repeated for e.g. every second week.
- Set up a new event
- Set up starting and ending time
- Choose "repetition"
- Choose then in "repetition" "weekly"
- Choose then in "repeating all" "2 weeks"
- Choose in "repeat at" the accordant day of the week
- Choose in "end of repetition" either the number of your repetitions or the date of the last repitition.
Can I repeat an event weekly (monthly) on certain week days (days)?
To do this, simply activate the weekly (monthly) repetition and choose in "repeat at" one or more week days. This feature also works out with synchronized calendars (Exchange, Google)!
I can´t change/delete my events anymore.
The operating system might have put a write-protection to particular events. Please check if the write-protection is activated in the standard iPhone calendar. Maybe the iOS/your account sync doesn´t work properly. You may possibly have to reset it (please be careful because of data loss)
miCal does not display the colors of Outlook! Can I tag events as "private" or "business" and communicate this to the Exchange calendar?
Unfortunately, this is not possible due to technical reasons. The iPhone calendar can´t pass this data on while synchronizing.
